What better reason to travel, than for a friends destination wedding, better yet…YOU’RE BEST FRIENDS WEDDING!
Well I had to the honor of doing so this month and let me tell you, it was amazing. Everyone who knows me, knows I am a totally softie for true love, and these two are nothing short of a San Francisco fairy tale.
The Setting
So the first stop on this destination wedding was Paris. I flew into Charles de Gaulle Airport, and once I got through customs it was an easy breeze to catch a taxi to meet up with the girls. I landed early in the morning so I caught some zZz’s on the flight so I could catch some YAY’s when I landed. The minute I seen my girls we embraced each other instantly as per usual (screams and giggled were made), and then went inside to a good old fashioned Parisian breakfast, tea and pastries. To our surprise there was a street party passing through with Buddists in tow throwing fruits and good energy (I’m assuming) from a platform being pulled by a women and men of all colors, ages and cultures. It was unreal and a great first experience in the city.
The Experiences
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica
A Roman Catholic church sitting at the tippy top of the hill of Montmartre, a townish parish which shrinks the second you climb the steps up the hill. We were lucky to be there during a service so it was very quite. You feel inspired the second you hit the front of this church besides the architecture, the high pillars make you feel so tiny as they protecting the front doors from the sun which somehow makes it way in-in the most delicate way. When you enter you are greeted with holy water bowls and candles in which you can light your own. Beyond this is where you see what makes this holy temple such a treasure, each wall is covered with murals, gorgeous and enormous murals. We stopped by each to take in and appreciate their beauty.
To get to it we walked past a bunch of tempting restaurants and artist lined pathways. If you want your portrait sketched by an authentic Parisian artist, while your friends grab some food this is the place to be. They also have a nearby Starbucks which was my saving grace since i was feeling a bit jetlagged by the time we reached it.
We also stoped to visit the Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower and tons of other fun places. But honestly nothing beat the fact that we got to visit during a historical moment. We were there during the World Cup! Thats right we were in Paris, France when France won their game to make it to finals. Sadly we werent in the city during the final game but thats for the second part of this blog post…to be continued.
